The JumpStart Car Donation Program
A Real Car Donation Program!

Before we tell you anything about JumpStart we want you to know that we will NEVER sell any of the cars that are donated to cover our program expenses.  Never, ever - period!

We transfer every car we accept to a family or low-income person who need transportation to work or medical care.  If you ask any of the other car donation programs (even the "big" ones), they will usually tell you that they sell the cars (or scrap them for the metal), and use the proceeds for advertising or other expenses.  If anything is left over they will give it to the organization's mission.

Please think about this: Do you want your car donation to pay for the rent on a billboard or a radio/TV ad, or do you want your car to actually help someone change their life?

JumpStart accepts the donation of reliable vehicles, providing tax deductible receipts to the donors, and we transfer the inspected and/or repaired auto to an income eligible family or individual that needs transportation for employment or medical care.  The cost of the vehicle to the recipient is the title transfer fee, plus a maximum of $500 in actual repair expense to insure reliability.  Open Hearth pays for other expenses out of our own pocket.  While we lose money on every car we process, we think that this is the way we need to operate JumpStart - helping people actually use your car for transportation is simply the right thing to do.

Who Benefits from JumpStart?

YOU!  Community members or businesses that donate a vehicle may be able to receive an income tax deduction based on its book value*.  PLUS, you can be assured that a low-income family in this community will actually be able to use your donated vehicle - everyday!  100% of your donation goes directly to someone in need!  Please keep in mind that all vehicles must pass a diagnostic/safety inspection and be able to be repaired for a reasonable cost to be accepted by JumpStart.

And Most Importantly:

REAL PEOPLE BENEFIT!  Those who qualify benefit by receiving a donated vehicle at the cost of repairs and title transfer.  Having reliable transportation allows families to maintain their employment and, thus, increases their likelihood to become or remain self-sufficient. Qualifications for car recipients are they must be of low income; live in the greater Spring City/Phoenixville area of Chester County, Pennsylvania; be referred by a JumpStart cooperative member; demonstrate need for vehicle such as: Imminent loss of employment, lack of transportation to employment or specialized medical care, etc.; and show the ability to secure and maintain car insurance along with the vehicle's ongoing maintenance expenses.
